Orissa to revive Kalarangi Chromite mine

Bhubaneswar, May 13 : The Orissa government today decided to revive the Kalarangi Chromite Mine in Sukinda area of Jajpur district.

The decision was taken at a high-level meeting held under the chairmanship of Finance Minister Prafulla Chandra Ghadai.

The Steel and Mines Secretary, Forest and Environment Special Secretary, Orissa Mining Corporation Managing Director, Orissa State Pollution Control Board Member Secretary and Chief Wildlife Conservator attended the meeting among others.

The mine was closed ten years ago as it could not get the Forest and Environment clearance, it was learnt.

Mr Ghadhai asked the officials concerned to complete the environment impact assessment and the wildlife conservation plan at the earliest.

The revival of the mine would meet the chromite demand of the state and create job opportunities for more than two thousand people, the Minister said.
