New Delhi, Dec 14 : Celebrity fashion designer Manish Malhotra has launched a contemporary yet traditional trousseau line for today's bride that is rich in velvets, brocades and his favourite nets.
"This is the best time of the year to come up with this line. Earlier brides used to stick to traditional wear on their wedding but now with the concept of destination weddings gaining popularity, brides-to-be are opting for a mix of traditional and contemporary designs," Manish Malhotra told IANS during the launch of his line at the Kimaya store here Monday.
The line has a range of anarkali suits, net saris, lehengas teamed with contemporary tops and heavy dupattas.
Explaining the concept of this fusion, Malhotra said: "Resort wear becomes very popular in December-January. Brides are tired of wearing heavy stuff especially if the wedding is taking place in Goa or Thailand. So a contemporary yet traditional outfit fits the bill perfectly."
The collection has used fabrics like velvet, brocade, nets and chiffons in rich and vibrant colours.
Malhotra, who has designed for Bollywood actresses like Kareena Kapoor and Kajol, says that brides-to-be are a confused lot. So helping them find a perfect wedding trousseau is a daunting task.
"The common problem with all brides-to-be is that they are very confused. So it's very important for any designer to sit with them, understand what they want and what actually will look good on them and then zero in on an outfit," Malhotra said.
"After all every bride wants to look good on her wedding day but very few actually look good because most of them have the tendency to go overboard," he said.
