New vermi compost to save cotton crop from scorching heat

Hisar, May 11 : Farmers will now be able to protect their cotton crops from the scorching heat of May and June, thanks to a new vermi compost that promises to ensure healthy growth of cotton crop even at 45 to 48 degree Celsius temperature.

The new vermi compost named as Azotica HT-54 has been prepared by scientists of Micro-Biology Department of the Chaudhary Charan Singh Haryana Agricultural University (CCSHAU) here.

The plants of cotton get scorched due to continuous heat in the month of May and June which adversely affects their healthy growth and hits the cotton production.

The high temperatures at 45 to 48 degree Celsius, usually destroy the microbes such as Azotobactor, Rhyzobium, Azospirillum, Glucon, which are responsible for the growth of the plants.

However, the vermi compost Azotica HT-54 keeps these microbes alive even at high temperature.

Vermi compost Azotica HT-54 can be used in many ways, but its best use is to treat seeds with it.

For treating seeds with Azotica HT-54, a solution should be prepared by mixing 50 gms Gur with 250 ml water and the seeds should be mixed into this solution so as to make them sticky.

Thereafter, the Azotica HT-54 should be mixed properly into the seeds.

The seeds so treated should be aired in the shade for half-an-hour before sowing.
