Himachal cricket body to involve students for West Indies ODI
To generate interest among the schoolchildren ahead of the India-West Indies ODI slated for Oct 20 in Dharamsala, the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association (HPCA) would organise a month-long quiz contest, it was announced here Monday.
The quiz, which will be open to the students across the state in the age group of 14-16, will be based on cricket, HPCA press secretary Mohit Sood told IANS.
"It's an initiative to celebrate the game of cricket and to expose the young minds to the history of cricket in Himachal Pradesh," he said.
According to him, more than 200 schools will be involved in the quiz.
BJP MP and HPCA president Anurag Thakur said: "This will be the second international match to be held at the Dharamsala stadium and we at HPCA are delighted and would like to involve the young kids in this prestigious match."
Sood said the winners of the quiz would get an opportunity to interact with the players and witness the match Oct 20 at the HPCA's ground in Dharamsala, some 250 km from the state capital. This will be the second ODI match at the venue.
The quiz will consist of five questions based on cricket and will be revealed one by one on the Facebook page of the HPCA.
The HPCA is seeing it as a major achievement in showcasing its showpiece venue, located at an altitude of 4,000 feet above sea level, with the mighty snow-clad Dhauladhar ranges forming the backdrop.
