The India Chamber of Commerce (ICC) on Wednesday organised a HR Conclave, 2014 in Kolkata.

Speaking at the occasion, Cluster Head of HR-South Asia, Linde India Limited, Subroto Basu Chaudhury said inculcating organizational values, sticking to well-defined strategies and proper utilization of the human resources can hedge company profitability in trying times.

"Deliverable is important, not do-able" said Basu Chaudhury.

He advocated companies to build quality resource pool that would better their competition.

The HR function plays a critical role in ensuring the seamless operation of business enterprises especially for events like cross cultural Merger and Acquisition activities, observed Jitendra K. Das, Director, FORE School of Management, New Delhi.

He singled out close customer relations, autonomy and entrepreneurship and productivity through people as some of the benchmarks of excellence in modern day business.

"With the larger objective of profit maximization, organizations should be flexible and adhere to the 5 C principle involving Customer, Competition, Collaboration (distribution and supply chain), Company, and Context- of these key parameters "Customer" is the fastest changing component affecting business profit -bottomlines and strategies," said Das.

He called for the need for intra-departmental engagement and greater alignment of top management with the functionaries down the ladder.
