India's only multilingual book show 'Kitaabnama

The television programme showcases the multilingual diversity of India.

Conceived by writer and literary activist Namita Gokhale, the programme invites speakers from different languages of the country apart from Hindi and English, including Bangla, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Khasi, Rajasthani, Gujarati and Asura among others.

"'Kitaabnama' is among the positive steps that Doordarshan has recently taken to reach out to the soul of India- when many others compete for the ears and eyes. Literature is the 'second opinion' that all nations have to seek for their own health, both mental and physical. We're fortunate to have Namita lead it and we're sure it'll bear her magic touch and benefit from her vast experience," said Prasar Bharati CEO Jawhar Sircar.

Episode number 50 will see lyricist, poet and writer Gulzar Saheb in conversation with poet Yatindra Mishra.

Among the other names to have been featured on the programme are Ashok Vajpeyi, Amish Tripathi, Geetanjali Shree, Mahesh Dattani, Mahmood Farooqui, Uday Prakash, Mamta Kalia, Keki Daruwalla, Bhanu Bharati, Urvashi Butalia, Ramchandra Guha, and Lord Meghnad Desai.
