BJP hails Jan-Dhan Yojana, says bank accounts now for everybody
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) hailed the Jan-Dhan Yojana, which would be officially launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday
"There are a lot of people in this country who don't have bank accounts. This scheme will see the 'jan ka dhan' (wealth of the people) come in. This scheme will be for everybody - the 'aam aadmi' (ordinary man), the poor, the people living below the poverty line, urban citizens, rural citizens - we want everybody to have a bank account," BJP spokesperson Shahnawaz Hussain told ANI here.
Hussain further said this scheme has been very successful so far.
"Accounts are being opened at a record pace, with over one crore accounts opened already," he added.
Hussain also referred to this scheme as the foundation for corrupt-free governance.
"The money through government schemes that used to be given to people without bank accounts used to, in many instances, go missing. This will no longer happen. This is the foundation for corrupt-free governance," said Hussain.
"We are setting up camps at many places, and apart from public sector banks, even private banks are helping us with this scheme. From now on, the people will be given money straight into their accounts and will also be given insurance, as well as a credit of Rs 5,000. The bank is not only for the 'haves', it is for everybody," he added.
Prime Minister Modi will be officially launching the Jan-Dhan Yojana later today.
