BWF president elected to IOC

Sochi, Feb 7 : Badminton World Federation (BWF) President Poul-Erik Hoyer has been elected as the newest member of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) in Sochi on Friday.
"The 48-year-old Dane was the sole nominee for membership at the 126th Session of the IOC which is being held on the eve of the Sochi Winter Olympics which officially start later today," BWF website said.
He received 76 votes out of 88 valid ballots, surpassing the required majority of 45 votes.
There was a total of 91 ballots overall.
"He was immediately invited to take the oath of office after which he was warmly welcomed by IOC President Thomas Bach and other members of the IOC Executive Board," BWF said.
Hoyer, the 1996 Olympic Men's Singles gold medallist, has been the BWF President since last May when he was elected at the BWF's Annual General Meeting in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
