Alvi believes Kerala Governor Sheila Dikshit quit under NDA regime's pressure
Congress leader Rashid Alvi today hinted that Kerala Governor Sheila Dikshit might have possibly stepped down from her post after facing relentless pressure from the BJP-led NDA Government.
He also criticised the government's moves to replace governors as an exercise that was neither constitutionally correct nor democratic.
Alvi said, "The BJP-led government is neither respecting the views of the Supreme Court , nor its directions. It is simply putting pressure on governors seeking their resignation and appointing new ones. This is neither constitutionally correct nor democratic."
"Most probably she has done so because of this reason. The way governors are being humiliated, Maharashtra Governor was transferred. They just want some excuse to get their resignations," Alvi told ANI.
Dikshit is the seventh UPA appointed governor to resign after the Narendra Modi government came to power at the Centre in May this year.
Dikshit's resignation comes a day after she met President Pranab Mukherjee and Home Minister Rajnath Singh.
