Di Maria to join Man U for 60 mln-pounds from Real after Man City say no
Argentine winger Angel Di Maria will reportedly join Manchester United in a British record transfer, after rivals Manchester City turned down the chance to sign the Real Madrid star.
It has been reportedly reveal that United will pay Real 60 million pounds for Di Maria and they have also agreed to stump up another 7 million pounds in add-ons.
The deal would shatter the current British record of 50 million pounds paid by Chelsea to Liverpool in January 2011 for Fernando Torres, The Mirror reported.
United manager Louis van Gaal put Di Maria at the top of his wish list when he name-checked the Argentine earlier this month. He is the big-name signing that United fans have been craving.
But the fans would be devastated to know that Di Maria's advisers contacted City after the Would Cup to gauge their interest. The winger wanted to link up at the Etihad with international teammates Pablo Zabaleta and Sergio Aguero.
However, City said that they weren't interested. A senior City source confirmed that they were approached about the possibility of signing Di Maria after he made it clear he wanted to come here.
The source said that the deal offered was 75 million euros with another 10 million euros in add-ons. But, the source added that City were not interested in making it happen.
United, desperate to deliver a stellar name for Van Gaal, haven't been put off.
United executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward was reportedly locked in talks with Real after the price was set by the European champions.
Di Maria has told friends in Spain that he has accepted a 1,80,000 pounds-a-week offer from United and has made it clear that he wants the number 7 shirt at Old Trafford, the report added.
