In a bid to revive the theatre and film culture in the Valley, a four day international film festival was held here in the SKICC auditorium in Srinagar.

International Film Festival of Kashmir 2014 is being organized by Experimental Moving Images and Theatre Association (XMITA) in collaboration with the tourism department.

A theatre artist Arshid said, "It's very important that people themselves take initiative and create free and open spaces for people where they are free to express what they want. It's very important that we as Kashmiris create our own cinema, films and theatre and have spaces like this where they can be exhibited."

Qurat-ul-ain, an audience member, was all praises for the film festival as she believed it would encourage art in the Valley.

"We live in a conflict zone and such things don't happen every time here. But this will promote art. We saw all kinds of movies, including Russian, Kashmiri and animated films," she said.

During this four day festival, some 44 movies in 10 international languages will be screened at different venues including the Radio Kashmir auditorium.
