Police misplace case diaries in Salman Khan hit-and-run case
Actor Salman Khan's trial in his hit-and-run case has been delayed yet again, after the police informed the Sessions Court that the case diaries have gone missing. This comes after the original statements of the witnesses also went missing.
The police have been directed by the Sessions Court to find the missing documents by September 12. The police informed the court that true copies of all the documents were available, but defence lawyer Srikant Shivade contended that the law stipulated that the original papers were required to be produced in court for the trial to proceed.
However, the prosecution has argued that the established practice in Mumbai courts is that the trial can go on with true copies.
On July 25, the court had asked the Bandra police to produce the case diaries and all the missing documents.
On September 28, 2002, the actor's car had run over people sleeping on the pavement in Bandra, killing one and injuring four.
