A UN jet has arrived in Irbil with 100 tonnes of cooking equipment and tents, reports the BBC.

The UN said there are more than 1.2 million people who have been displaced across the country.

Meanwhile, the U.S. is continuing with its air strikes, targeting Islamic State militants in Northern Iraq despite the recent beheading of an American journalist.

The number of U.S. air strikes has exceeded 90, said American officials.

The United States asked the UN to deploy extra security in Iraq that could include 300 troops, said a senior official.
