Senior journalist and political analyst Ved Pratap Vaidik has opined that the foreign secretary-level talks should have gone ahead as planned.

Speaking to ANI, Vaidik said, "It is an old tradition for members of the Hurriyat to meet envoys from Pakistan. Prime Ministers of India have also met these individuals as have Pakistani politicians, whenever they visit India."

He questioned the purpose of cancelling the foreign secretary-Level talks, saying, "What new can be gained by the Pakistan High Commissioner meeting these people and what is gained by the Hurriyat leaders?"

Stating that the talks should have gone on, he claimed that the government needs an excuse to start or stop dialogues, depending on the situation.

India cancelled the upcoming bilateral talks between the two countries after the Pakistani High Commissioner invited separatist leaders for talks earlier this week.
