Assam CM Gogoi calls attack on his convoy in Golaghat politically motivated
Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi has termed yesterday's targeted attack on his convoy in Golaghat as politically motivated.
The demonstrators in Golaghat were protesting against Gogoi's visit to Assam with black flags when they attacked the local police and destroyed vehicles.
The incident resulted in such outrage that it prompted the local police to fire in the air and launch a baton charge to disperse the protesters.
"I am not blaming the Central Government. It is to see whether the police committed excesses. They blocked 300 moving trucks in Nagaland. All these were released and sent back and the roads were cleared," said Gogoi.
"But the protestors came back on road, blocking it, bursting tyres, attacking policemen as a result of which the police had to resort to firing, lathicharge, and bullet. Due to which 22 civilians were injured but no one injured seriously. We are doing enquiry also where there is excess. Somewhat situation is political also," he added.
Earlier, Gogoi and Nagaland Chief Minister T.R. Zeliang had reportedly sought Prime Minister Narendra Modi's help to resolve their border-related issues.
