At least 14 people were killed when the bus in which they were travelling veered off the road and fell 500 metres below the road into the Bhalukhola river in Nepal's Palpa district, media reports said.

The mishap occurred at around 2 am and left at least seven others injured.

The driver and the owner of the bus were also killed in the accident, reports said.

Palpa DSP Shiva Shrestha told The Himalayan Times: "The bus might have lost control of the vehicle after the driver dozed off at the steering wheel leading to the accident."

The bus, which was carrying 21 people, was going to Bhirahawa town from Pokhara city.
