South Africa's bowling coach Allan Donald has backed pace spearhead Dale Steyn to unleash his fiery best against Australia in the upcoming three-Test series, starting at Centurion on Wednesday.

Steyn, who made a timely return from a fractured rib in the ongoing three-day practice match against a Combined XI at the Wanderers, looked a long way off his best in the match despite destroying batting attacks around the world.

However, Sport24 reports that Donald expects that Steyn's erratic performance will change and he will aim to produce one spell at full speed and momentum before next week's opening Test against Australia in Centurion.

Donald further said that the biggest thing for a player coming back from a rib injury is his confidence in trusting that part of his body, although for a bowler who has not bowled in a month, Steyn has not been the worst outing.

Donald made it clear Steyn would not be a passenger when the three-Test series starts next Wednesday, saying that they cannot afford for him to ease into it and added that captain Graeme Smith wants him to be full tilt right from the start.
