Army Officers honoured in Jodhpur Investiture Ceremony
On the occasion of 66th Army Day, gallantry and distinguished service awards were presented by GOC-in-C Southern Command, Lt Gen Ashok Singh to 33 officers and jawans at the 'Investitutre Ceremony' held in Jodhpur's Military Station on Wednesday.
The awards presented included three Yudh Seva Medals, 14 Sena Medals (Gallantry), 12 Vishisht Seva Medals, 1 Bar to Sena Medal (Distinguished) and three Sena Medals (Distinguished).
The Army Commander also bestowed the 'Southern Army Commander's Unit Appreciation' on 12 units of Southern Command for their meritorious and outstanding performance.
The gallantry medal awardees included Major Sandeep Sharma of Sikh Light Infantry, who while serving in Democratic Republic of Congo in July 2012, resolutely lead a BMP patrol, in the face of attacks of heavily armed Congolese rebels, thus saving the lives of a large number of innocent civilians.
Colonel Sanjay Vadhera, an army aviation pilot was awarded Sena Medal (Gallantry) for effecting a daring life-saving casualty evacuation by helicopter at night in advance weather conditions from a 14500 feet high border post in Arunachal Pradesh.
Lieutenant Ajay Singh Pathania of Army Service Corps was awarded Sena Medal (Gallantry) for anti-militancy operations in the jungles of Assam on Feb 8 2012.
Grenadier Ranjeet Singh Yadav was awarded Sena Medal (Gallantry) for his action which resulted in killing of a hardcore terrorist and capture of a huge cache of arms and ammunition in Manipur.
