Mumbai model's ex-lawyer says client not firm on allegations
A former lawyer of a Mumbai model, who had accused Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Police Sunil Paraskar of raping her, told ANI that he quit the case because his client was not firm about her allegations and was changing her statements too frequently for comfort.
Rizwan Siddiqui, the former lawyer of the model, said, "The briefing I got earlier was different and later when I realized that my client had not shared complete information with me. The case was being filed for publicity and to get into a reality show. It's on record and I have submitted it the police."
"When I saw that there were so many changes in the client's stance and she was not firm, I decided that I don't want to be a part of this controversy and backed out of it," Siddiqui added.
A Mumbai model had accused DIG Sunil Paraskar of raping her on several occasions and he was later booked by the Mumbai police under Indian Penal Code Sections 376(2)(rape by a police officer), 376 C (intercourse by superintendent of jail, remand home, etc) and 354 (D) (stalking).
Later on August 2, an article had appeared in Shiv Sena mouthpiece 'Saamna' backing DIG Sunil Paraskar, as it said, 'today has it become a fashion to level rape charges? This question is now in people's minds.'
Shiv Sena Member of Parliament (MP) Sanjay Raut , however, had clarified the magazine's stance by stating, "Shiv Sena has not supported DIG Paraskar. The media has taken out a wrong meaning of the article published in Saamna."
"The debate on rape should happen because whoever is accused of rape his career, family everything suffers, this is what we had said and many such cases have happened in Mumbai. It's not the matter of favoring or supporting someone but of technicality for which proper investigation should be done and then the truth should be brought forward in any case," he had added.
Congress leader Shobha Oza had condemned the article by saying that it was very shocking and irresponsible that Saamna magazine had come out with an article in support of the cop who has been accused in a rape case while the investigation is going on.
