Goa's Deputy Chief Minister Francis D'Souza on Monday apologized for his statement in which he called India a Hindu country and that all Indians are Hindus, describing himself as a Hindu Christian.

"I have said that Hinduism is my culture not religion then where did the question of religion come from? My religion is 2000 years old and Hindu culture is 5000 years old. Hinduism is my culture and Christianity is my religion. Though, I apologize if any sentiments are hurt but according to me I am right," said D'souza.

On Friday, D'Souza had stated that all Indians are Hindus, and also said that India is a Hindu country and all Indians are Hindus while describing himself as a Christian Hindu.
