ASI injured in CPI-TMC clash dies
Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI) Amit Chakraborty who was injured in clashes between Communist Party of India (CPI) and Trinamool Congress (TMC) in West Bengal's Birbhum district on June 3, succumbed to his injuries today.
Chakraborty got injured in his stomach during a bomb blast on June 3 when he was trying to control the mob involved in clashes between TMC and CPI supporters.
He was undergoing a treatment in Durgapur hospital where he succumbed to his injuries today.
Chakrabarty's body will receive the gun salute after 2 p.m. at the Birbhum police line.
The clash was over a land issue in Durgapur city and the police has already arrested 17 accused including mostly TMC supporters. The police is still enquiring into the incident as many accused have reportedly fled.
So far no violence has been reported and the security has also been tightened in the area.
