GVK EMRI launches women helpline in Gujarat

Gandhinagar, Feb 5 : Non-profit organisation GVK EMRI in association with Gujarat government has launched 181 - the Abhayam Women Helpline for all women in Gujarat.

The helpline, launched in collaboration with the home and women and child welfare departments, will be synchronized with the existing "1091 - Gujarat Police Helpline" and other women-oriented services.

The free 24x7 helpline, 181, is a toll-free number to support women in distress and is accessible through any mobile or landline. Any women can access 181 "Abhayam" helpline for the purpose of counseling, guidance, information and also for the rescue in various threatening situations including domestic violence.

"181-Abhayam will add value to the life of common people of Gujarat. This is an excellent step towards assurance of women empowerment in the state," said Minister of Revenue and Urban Development Anandiben Patel, while inaugurating the service in Gandhinagar on Wednesday.

Initially the services will be available in Ahmedabad city, Surat City and Gandhinagar District.
