Uproar in Lok Sabha over Sihv Sena MPs forcing man to break fast
The Lok Sabha was on Wednesday adjourned till 2. 10 p.m. after witnessing massive uproar over Shiv Sena MPs for allegedly abusing and forcing a Muslim catering supervisor at the Maharashtra Sadan to break his Ramzan fast and eat a chapatti.
As soon as the Lok Sabha met for the day, several Opposition members raised the issue and termed it as violation of religious beliefs.
Members from Congress, RJD, Trinamool Congress and AIMIM were on their feet raising the issue.
Amid the din, Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan adjourned the house first till 12.30 p.m. and later till 2. 10 p.m.
In a highly insensitive act, 11 Shiv Sena MPs allegedly forced a Muslim catering supervisor to break his Ramzan fast at Maharashtra Sadan in New Delhi last week.
The MPs were apparently angry over not being served Maharashtrian food.
The Maharashtra Sadan has apologised to the employee even as the Shiv Sena has denied the incident.
Sena spokesperson Sanjay Raut, who was allegedly among the leaders present during the incident, has denied the allegation. "These allegations are totally baseless," he said.
"All the members of Shiv Sena respects all the religions," he added.
