No additional area to be submerged due to raised Narmada dam: Govt
No additional agriculture land or houses will get submerged due to allowed increase in the height of the Narmada Sardar Sarovar dam, the Lok Sabha was informed today.
Minister of State for Water Resources Santosh Kumar Gangwar said in a written reply that in accordance to the Supreme Court order of October 18, 2000 the Narmada Control Authority had permitted the Sardar Sarovar Narmada Nigam Limited of the Gujarat government to carry out Phase-I proposal.
He said the proposal comprised of construction of piers, overhead bridge and installation of gates in open or raised position of the dam as per the approved design, subject to conditions of environment sub group and the rehabilitation and resettlement group of the authority.
