Karuna demands Centre, Tamil Nadu govt to ensure release of fishermen
DMK President M Karunanidhi today demanded the Centre and Tamil Nadu government to initiate steps immediately to get the 20 fishermen arrested by the Lankan navy again at Rameswaram yesterday, retrieve their five boats and find a permanent solution to the problem.
Mr Karunanidhi, who reiterated this demand in a statement here, also took a dig at Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa, charging that "whenever the arrests of our fishermen happen, all that she has been doing is to shoot off letters to the Prime Minister. "Nothing has been resulting from this and our fishermen continue to be arrested by the Lankan navy," he pointed out sarcastically.
"So, the Centre and the state governments must immediately secure the release of the fishermen and ensure that they return home", he added.
