Stage plays are normally associated with raising funds for humanitarian causes like raising funds for flood or earth quakevictims.


But on Sunday, this was done for the cause of sport, perhaps for the first time.

Well-known stage and film comedian Y G Mahndra, also an educationist, decided to do a good deed for his sportsman friend, India and Tamil Nadu's former table tennis star V Chandrasekhar, who is raising funds for his dream project of setting up a state-of-the-art table tennis academy here. Chandra' as the former India captain and Arjuna awardee is called, by the table tennis fraternity here, has already been allotted land in the city by Tamil Nadu government for his dream project. Mahendra staged a popular play of his this evening.

'The budget for the project is Rs 90 lakh. I have already raised Rs 65 lakh', Chandra said,adding his friend Mahenra was chipping in to help him in the process to raise the remaining amount by staging one of his recent plays.
