A team of the CBI today recorded the statement of Goa Governor Bharat Vir Wanchoo as a witness in connection with ongoing probe into allegations of bribery in VVIP helicopter deal with Agusta-Westland under Section 161 of Criminal Procedure Code.


Mr Wanchoo, after becoming aware through the media report several months back that CBI was desirous of recording his statement as a witness, was very keen that the same be recorded at the earliest for the purpose of completing the legal process in the above case, a statement here said.

The Governor received a formal request in this regard from the CBI on June 24, 2014, whereafter CBI was intimated that they could record the Governor's statement in Goa today.

The Governor stated that his statement would have clarified any issues that the CBI may have had and expressed hope that CBI would conclude their investigation and bring out the truth at the earliest, it added.
