BJP protests at Indo-Bangla border against smuggling
Three BJP activists were today injured when police used batons to disperse a procession which went unruly at Ghojadanga during a protest against smuggling from across Bangladesh.
The BJP leaders, who were spearheading the protest, alleged that police charged at them unprovoked as some 500 supporters were protesting and blocked the road demanding improvement of policing to stop smuggling of fake currencies, gold and cattle from across the border. Ghojadanga under Basirhat sub-division of South 24 Parganas is notorious for smuggling of contraband, including fake Indian currencies.
The BJP leaders alleged that though the BSF had intensified vigil at the post, the West Bengal Police was yet to take proper action against the nabbed smugglers. The leaders submitted a memorandum to Block Development Officer Shekhar Sen to take proper steps against the smugglers.
