BJP seeks ASI action over inauguration of heritage building
Opposition BJP in Himachal Pradesh today sought action by the Archaeological Survey of India against the raising of inauguration stone along the Municipal Corporation Building by Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh here recently, terming it as a deliberate attempt to deface and disfigure the heritage monument.
Party spokesman Ganesh Dutt in a statement issued here alleged that the stone could not be placed on the MC building, alleging that it was a sheer violation of ASI's prescribed norm for the Heritage structure.
'Despite the fact that heritage monuments are not to be mended, a stone was pasted on MC building, highlighting that the building is being renovated soon,' the statement pointed out.
New inauguration plate has also been pasted on Heritage Gaitey Theatre, which is another violation of ASI norms.
There remains an arrangement in heritage buildings that its original structure not be distorted, but few officials, spooning to the Chief Minister, were bent on violating the laid norms, Mr Dutt alleged.
BJP demanded the ASI department to probe the violation of the norms and take action against the erring officials.
