The Supreme Court today granted regular bail to Tehelka founder Tarun Tejpal in sexual assault case.

A bench comprising Justice H L Dattu and Justice S A Bodde while granting him bail also directed that he will not leave the country without prior permission of the court.

Earlier, counsel for the petitioner assured the Supreme Court that the petitioners would not hamper the investigation and would not threaten the witnesses.

Tejpal was on interim bail to attend the last rites of his mother, who had died last month.

Tejpal (51) was arrested by Goa police after a complaint was lodged by a young woman reporter alleging sexual assault by Tejpal.

After the incident, Tejpal publicly apologised to the victim and 'imposed' a punishment on himself declaring that he will not attend 'Tehelka' office for six months.
