Jammu and Kashmir police has awarded 63 scholarships to as many children of police personnel, who have secured distinction in annual examination of classh 8th and 9th for the academic year 2013-2014 .


Director General of Police (DGP) K Rajendra announced that over Rs 1.51 lakh have been sanctioned in favour of 63 wards of serving police personnel.

The meritorious scholarships have been sanctioned in favour of those children who have secured 75 per cent and above marks in class 8th and 9th, he said, adding these students are studying in various educational institutions across the State.

He said the objective of granting scholarships is to boost talent among children so that they could compete in different educational streams in future.

The police chief said scholarships are being sanctioned in favour of meritorious students out of Central Police Welfare Fund, who secure distinction in different annual examinations.

He said police organisation, besides other measures, has started many schemes under its welfare programme for serving police personnel and the families of police martyrs.

Efforts are on to provide better educational facilities to the wards of police personnel, he said, adding the department realizes that the police personnel remain away from their homes in service of the nation and their families do not get the required care.

Mr Rajendra said it is the responsibility of the organization to encourage the wards of these personnel to take various competitive examinations for their better career prospects.
