Narcotics, weapons smuggling gang kingpin arrested in Bengal
A kingpin of the inter-state weapons and narcotics smuggling gang, which has been carrying out its illegal dealings while dressed up in military fatigues, was arrested from Ranaghat in West Bengal's Nadia district Friday.
Kartik Kundu was rounded up based on the interrogation of the nine people arrested from this town in Darjeeling district Wednesday night, said Siliguri Police Commissioner Jagmohan.
Cananbis worth over Rs.5 crore, besides arms and ammunition including an AK 47 rifle, were seized in West Bengal's Darjeeling district Thursday from the nine arrested, who were all in military fatigues.
"The cannabis was being sent to Kundu. He would have then taken the call on sending the it to another state,' Jagmohan said.
Kundu was being brought here on transit remand.
Meanwhile, Directorate of Revenue Intelligence sources said among the nine was Pappu Giri, a big fish in the narcotics racket.
Giri is a resident of Azamgarh in Uttar Pradesh.
