Thane municipal commissioner Aseem Gupta today directed the civic administration to lodge a criminal complaint against a professor of the civic-run medical college at Kalwa for alleged molestation of female staff and students.

Ten days back, around 35 victims complained to the civic commissioner, police commissioner and the dean of hospital about the misdeeds of Prof Saileshwar Natarajan.

Acting on their complaints, the corporation ordered enquiry and recorded the statements of some of the affected women, but no offence was recorded against the professor.

Both the leader of House Naresh Mhaske and leader of opposition Hanumant Jagdale had raised hue and cry over delay.

Today, Congress corporator Sanjay Gadigaonkar barged into commissioner's cabin where dean Dr C Maitra was also present. He pulled up the dean and civic chief over delay in action.

Following which, the municipal commissioner instantly ordered to register a complaint. The professor is under suspension at present.

In a related development, Maharashtra medical education minister Jeetendra Awhad expressed displeasure over delay in registration of an offence suo moto by police.

Mr Gadigaonkar said he would file a criminal complaint in Bombay High Court against senior civic officials for lapses.
