Maharashtra Guv issues notification about reservation of certain govt posts
Maharashtra Governor K Sankaranarayanan today issued a notification mandating that the posts of Talathi, Gram Sevak, Surveyor, Anganwadi Supervisor, Teachers, Adivasi Nirikshak, Agriculture Assistants, Livestock Assistant, Auxiliary Nurse and Midwife and Multipurpose health workers in the Scheduled Areas of the state shall be reserved only for local Scheduled Tribes candidates.
The notification has been issued by the Governor using his special powers under Schedule V of the Constitution.
It has been observed that the levels of social and human development in the scheduled areas were much below the State average, according to an official release here today.
The Tribes Advisory Council, headed by Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan, had also urged the Governor to issue such a notification by using special powers under the
Constitution to address the problems of delivery of various services such as health, education, etc, in the Scheduled areas of the state.
In a reference to the Governor, the Tribes Advisory Council of Maharashtra had identified the problems of service delivery in the Scheduled Areas on account of vacancies of various posts, absenteeism of staff, lack of knowledge of local dialects among the government staff as factors responsible for poor delivery of services in scheduled areas.
The decision to reserve certain government posts in scheduled areas of the State for local candidates from the Scheduled Tribes is expected to improve various aspects of service delivery in the Scheduled Areas.
This is the first such notification issued by the Governor using his powers under the Fifth Schedule of the Constitution, it added.
