Farmers protest against TRS Govt decision
For the second day today, angry farmers launched protests including rasta rokos against the TRS government's decision to impose a cap on waiver of farm loans.
The farmers are unhappy over the decision to waive loans up to Rs one lakh availed between June 2013 and May 2014.
Farmers staged dharnas, took out mock funeral of the Chief Minister besides burning his effigies to register their anger over the decision.
The protesting farmers demanded the implementation of the waiver of crop loans for all farmers without any restrictions on the cut-off date.
They charged that only a few rich farmers who had availed of loans in the 2013-14 financial year would benefit by the decision to impose a cap on loan waiver.
Meanwhile, Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee President Ponnala Laxmaiah demanded that the farm loans should be waived from 2012 without any conditions, which was promised in the TRS poll manifesto.
The YSR Congress party too demanded that the loans be written off without any conditions.
State Agriculture Minister Pocharam Srinivas Reddy appealed to the farmers not to agitate and promised that the government would keep the poll promise.
