Two mandap decorators were arrested by city police on charges of brutally killing a 30-year-old man in the midst of a function late last night in Kalyan.

The victim and the accused friends were participating in the 'haldi' function on the eve of the marriage. In the midst of the function, the trio went to a nearby joint for alcoholic drinks. While drinking, a wordy duel erupted which was followed by quarrel, prompting the duo to attack the victim fatally with a knife, killing him instantly, police said today.

The duo dumped the body of the victim in the bushes behind the sports club.

Based on the information given by one of the passers-by, police rushed to the spot and took the body and sent it for postmortem.

The police later arrested the duo, Aniket Amar Pawar (20) and Aniket Kisan Dalvi (19).

The deceased was identified as Vijay Jiramallapa Salegaon (30), a labourer by profession.

The duo were booked under Section 302 (punishment for murder) of Indian Penal Code, sources added.
