Gujarat BJP core group meets; discussed various issues
The BJP Gujarat unit core group today met here and discussed various issues. Gujarat Chief Minister Anandiben Patel also met senior party leaders.
The core group meeting was attended by party state president R C Faldu and other senior leaders at the party headquarters at Koba near state capital.
The sources said the BJP leadership discussed various state organisation related issues, party's emphatic win in the recently concluded Lok Sabha polls where it won all the 26 seats in Gujarat. The sources said the party leaders also discussed about candidates and preparations for the by-polls to Vadodara Lok Sabha seat and nine Assembly seats.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who had won both the seats of Vadodara and Varanasi in the general elections, resigned from the seat in Gujarat and kept the Uttar Pradesh seat. Mr Modi had won with a record margin from Vadodara.
The nine Assembly seats fell vacant after BJP MLAs from these seats won the Lok Sabha elections and entered Parliament.
By-polls will be held to nine Assembly seats -- Maninagar, Khambhalia, Tankara, Mangrol, Talaja, Anand, Deesa, Matar and Limkheda. Mr Modi was Maninagar MLA when he was the Chief Minister.
The BJP sources said the party has not been taking lightly the Assembly polls as the party managed to bag only four out of seven Assembly seats, where by-polls were held along with the Lok Sabha elections.
The Congress, which was routed in the general elections, won three seats.
