Kerala Chief Minister Oommen Chandy today said the government would give permission to Gosree Island Development Authority (GIDA) for acquiring land for the developmental activities connected with the Island directly.

A decision in this regard was taken at a meeting of the GIDA council held here, headed by the Chief Minister.

The decision was taken in view of the delay in the developmental activities of GIDA due to the delay in acquiring land, he said adding that with the decision it would be able to speed up the developmental activities of GIDA. Stating that the GIDA was initiating developmental activities to the tune of RS 400 crore, the Chief Minister said a special committee would be constituted under District Collector to acquire the land.

He also said the projects under the GIDA would be keenly observed and suggested that steps should be taken to complete the projects in a time-bound manner.
