Australian skipper Michael Clarke has demanded quick clarity on injury of Shaun Marsh and Jackson Bird so that the team can prepare without interruption to face World No.1 South Africa.

Clarke was speaking to media at Sydney airport this morning, before boarding a plane for the three-Test series with the majority of the squad.

Marsh and Bird stay behind to prove their fitness, and Clarke wants the pair available to be picked for Australia's only warm-up match starting next week in Potchefstroom.

That would mean they'd need to be on a flight by the weekend, The AAP reports.

Bird, who has a back problem, bowled well in the nets yesterday.

Marsh's calf strain is said to be minor.
