Karunanidhi asks PM for Stalin's security

New Delhi/Chennai, Jan 29 : Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) supremo M Karunanidhi has reportedly written to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh seeking a security cover for his younger son MK Stalin.

According to reports, Karunanidhi said Stalin has life threat from his elder son MK Alagiri and that he has no faith in the Tamil Nadu Police who are controlled by Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa.

Karunanidhi on Tuesday said he suspended Alagiri from all party posts because he used harsh words against Stalin.

"On Jan 24, Alagiri came to my house and used harsh words against Stalin. He said Stalin will die in three months. No father will tolerate such words," said Karunanidhi.

"I do not know why Alagiri hates Stalin so much and that too for years. Instead of going to the media, Alagiri should have talked to me in person and sorted out issues about his suspension," he said.

A day after Alagiri was suspended from all party posts, the former Union Minister on Jan 25 said he is being rewarded for seeking justice.

"I am getting my reward for seeking justice. It is wrong to paste posters supporting me. But when Stalin's supporters paste posters projecting him as future Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and even future party president when the party supremo is alive, it is all right," said Alagiri.

Alagiri on Jan 24 said there is no democracy in the party led by his father Karunanidhi.

"There's no democracy in DMK. I suspect the DMK president has been blackmailed by somebody. I asked for justice for those suspended. The party has suspended me," Alagiri told NDTV.

Karunanidhi on Jan 24 suspended Alagiri from all posts of the party.

In a statement, the DMK said Alagiri was suspended for going against the party stand and for giving out statements in public which were contrary to party.

Earlier on Jan 11, Alagiri met Karunanidhi at the latter's residence at Gopalapuram in Chennai.

Before the meeting, Alagiri said he was visiting Karunanidhi to greet him on the occasion of Pongal and not to discuss the political tussle within the DMK.

"I spoke to my father not on political issues but family affairs. He asked me about his grandchildren who are presently in the US," Alagiri told reporters after the meeting.

This comes after Karunanidhi on Jan 9 suspended five supporters of Alagiri from the party.

However, on Jan 11, Alagiri said: "They were not my supporters."

Earlier, the former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister had condemned Alagiri's remarks against Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam (DMDK) leader Vijayakant.

"I said I would be happy if there was an alliance between the DMK and the DMDK. Mr. Alagiri's remarks against my view are not only regrettable but also condemnable," Karunanidhi was quoted as saying by The Hindu.

In an interview to a channel, Alagiri had said he could not consider Vijayakant as a politician as the leader lacked political decency.

In a veiled warning to Alagiri, Karunanidhi also said 'disciplinary actions' will be taken against those party men who would be violating desirable conduct.

He said they would be removed from the party.

Karunanidhi's two sons - Alagiri and Stalin - have been against each other for long time and their relationships touched new low after Karunanidhi decided to appoint his younger son Stalin as his political heir.
