Mamata announces two major decisions on Health and Super Mega Municipalities
West Bengal Chief Minister and Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee on Monday announced two important cabinet decisions of her Government related to health and on creating Super Mega Municipalities.
The first relating to the health, the chief minister declared good news for the medical teachers and doctors alike by increasing the retirement age limit. In the case of medical teachers the retirement age has been extended to 65 from 62, while those for the doctors have been extended upto 62 years from its earlier 60 years.
Mamata said, "Since 40 new multi-super hospitals are coming up, whereby 34 of those tenders have been given and some of which is already seeing resumption of work. Moreover, new hospitals are coming up and the existing hospitals will see a lot of revamp. We are witnessing a huge dearth of getting medical teachers and doctors to fill those vacancies hence this decision."
She also said that the primary healthcare will see a whole lot of revamp along with Critical Care Unit (CCU) etceteras. She said that the number of beds has been increased upto 10000 and therefore with huge infrastructure is being built, her Government faces trained medical practitioners. She added that those who from the new generation in the Health sector will be absorbed as well those who will have to work in the laboratories and as pathologists are needed and it requires training.
She announced new five major government hospitals coming up in Coochbehar, Raiganj, Diamond Harbour, Purulia and Rampurhat in the state and three private ones.
The second important decision which she announced was of creating Super Mega Municipalities in amalgamation of several small existing ones to give develop the area by providing better infrastructure and that it is manned properly in West Bengal. She gave the reasons behind this saying that some of them were either constrained by either manpower or with funds. She said that the process to hold details discussion for this has been started from today.
