The Punjab government on the one hand is encouraging inter-caste marriages by way of providing financial assistance to the couple but on the other hand such couples are running pillar to post for justice.

Such a case was reported at the Punjab Press Club here when Daljit Kaur, a Dalit woman accompanied by her husband from the Sikh Kamboj Sukhprit Singh narrated her story of being chased away from the house by the family members of her in-laws.

Daljit alleged that she got married on April 9, 2012, but her in-laws did not accept their marriage following which they started living separately.

But after about six months, her elder sister-in-law persuaded her to join the family following which she went to in-laws house. After a few days only, the family members started cursing and abusing her for marrying to Sukhprit. They also started calling by her caste to the extent that she was forced to run away from the house.

She said that she had approached the Jalandhar Rural District Police but to no avail.
