Thane police on Saturday seized as many as 491 cartriges from a nullah in the powerloom town of Bhiwandi in the district police said here today.

PI Prakash Patil of the Narpoli police station said the civic employees were in the process of cleaning the nullah in the town as a preparation to the ensuing monsoon.

During the clean up operations they found the cartridges of which 401 were live and others used.

According to police some unknown persons had dumped the cartridges to escape action and destroy evidence.

The Narpoli police station have registered offences under section 286 of the IPC and 3 and 25 of the Arms Act.

The local police who were concerned about the recovery of such a large quanitity of cartridges have launched a man hunt for those who dumped them in the nullah.
