Woman Maoist surrenders before police
A hardcore woman Maoist, carrying a reward of Rs 1 lakh on her head, surrendered before the Nabarangpur police yesterday.
Police today said woman Naxal cadre Sibabati alias Sandhya, who was involved in a series of naxal related violence, surrendered before the Nabarangpur SP in presence of Southern Range Inspector General of Police Y Jethwa.
The surrendered woman Maoist handed over one single bore SBL gun to the police.
She had joined the Odisha-Chhattishgarh Border Naxal group in 2010 and was actively associated with various Naxal activities in Odisha and Chhattisgarh.
The woman Naxal leader confessed before the police that the women cadres in the Naxal groups were being harassed and tortured.
Sandhya said she decided to surrender and join the mainstream as she was frustrated and upset over the mental and physical torture in the Naxal camp.
Mr Jethwa said she will be rehabilitated as per the norms of the state government and will be allowed to join the mainstream.
