2500 rendered jobless after Hind Motors, declare suspension of work
The management of the cash strapped Hindustan Motors Limited, Uttarpara plant, in West Bengal's Hooghly district today declared suspension of work notice at its car plant rendering nearly 2500 workers jobless for indefinite period.
The first and only integrated automobile plant in India, the Uttarpara factory, popularly known as Hind Motor, was having acute financial crisis for past few years.
As the workers returned for the day to join the duty found suspension of work notice pasted on the main gate at Uttarpara.
Hindustan Motors is part of the Birla group of industries, where car first produced In India in 1942.
But as demands rose with the change of time for fuel efficiency cars,the company lacked in rejuvenating the old plant, which parts of areas were surrounded by shrubs and creepers.
