Former Indian cricketer Sunil Gavaskar on Tuesday said bowling remained a 'concern' for the Indian team after it lost the series against New Zealand here.

India lost the fourth ODI match of the five match series against New Zealand by seven wickets and thus lost the series.

"I think the bowling is a major concern. In these condition where the new ball bowlers should be bowling well we are not doing so. We have not been doing so in South Africa, we've not been doing it here," Gavaskar told NDTV.

New Zealand lead the series 3-0.

Gavaskar said he feels that India should improve their bowling performance if they want to defend the World Cup.

"If we do no improve our bowling by next year when India comes to this part of the world to defend the (World Cup) title, it is going to be very, very, very difficult," Gavaskar said.

Australia and New Zealand will host the World Cup next year.
