Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, his Council of Ministers and the newly elected members of the Odisha Assembly were today administered the oath by protem Speaker V Sugnan Kumari Deo.


Ms Deo, the senior-most member in the assembly and who has been elected to the House for ten times, was yesterday sworn in as the protem Speaker of the 15th Odisha State Assembly by Governor S C Jamir.

Assembly sources said Mr Patnaik was first administered the oath of office by the protem Speaker followed by his Council of Ministers and then other elected members. The oath taking ceremony will continue till tomorrow.

In the 147 member-assembly, the BJD has won 117 seats, the Congress 16 seats,the BJP 10, CPI(M) and the Samata Kranti Dal one each and Independents two.

The Chief Minister and his 21 ministers, including eleven Cabinet Ministers and ten Ministers of States were sworn in by the Governor at a function inside the Raj Bhawan premises on May 21.

Mr Patnaik will be ruling the state for the fourth time in a row, a record which no political leader had achieved in the electoral history of Odisha politics.

Meanwhile, newly elected Congress MLAs led by former Minister Narashingha Mishra today met the Chief Minister at his Assembly chamber after taking oath.

Mr Mishra described the meeting as a courtesy call and said his party will extend all support to the government for over all development of the state.

The House is likely to elect the new Speaker on Monday.
