Nashik man arrested under new Black Magic Act, 2013 among others
The Thane police have arrested a 32-year-old businessman from Nashik on the alleged charges of molesting a teenage school girl under the pretext of teaching her 'black magic', the police said today.
WPSI SA Chavan of the Vartak Nagar police station told UNI that arrested Damodhar Bhanudas Awhad, presently residing at Gandhi Nagar locality of the city offered to teach the victim black magic. He had made the offer to the victim's father, who then allowed his 16-year-old daughter to learn the art from Awhad.
The accused frequently visited the girl's house between January 2014 and May 2014 under the pretext of teaching her the magic, but instead started misbehaving and molested her repeatedly, the complaint with the police said.
The complaint further said that when the girl tried to resist him, he threatened her with dire consequences. He also sent obsence messages on her facebook account from his account.
Based on the complaint by the girl, the Vartak Nagar police arrested the accused last night.
Further investigations are being undertaken by the local police,they added.
The police have slapped charges under section 354 (d) of the IPC,along with section 5 of the recently enacted The Maharashtra Prevention and Eradication of Human Sacrifice and other Inhuman, Evil and Aghori Practices and Black Magic Act, 2013, and also IT Act section 66(d).
The police have also charged the accused under sections 8 and 12 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, 2012, the police said.
