Thousands of fans of Tamil Superstar Rajinikant celebrated wildly as, after a gap of as many as four years, his new motion capture tech film 'Kochadaiiyan' with him in three roles, at last hit 3,000 screens across the country.


The film, Rajini's first after he recovered from his illness, post 'Enthiran', his last release, is directed by his younger daughter Soundarya, supervised by veteran K S Ravikumar. Soundarya also makes her debut in Kollywood. The film was in the making for a long time due to technical reasons. Bollywood actress Deepika Padukone makes her debut in a Tamil film. double Oscar winner A R Rahman has scored the music, with Rajini himself crooning one number.

At a theatre in the city, Rajini fans performed the traditional 'abhishekam' with milk and softdrink Pepsi to a 100 foot cut-out of one of Indian cinema's most charismatic actors, irrespective of language barrier. Rajini has acted in more than 150 films so far.

Rajini's fans also went on a tour around the state calling it 'green marathon' in celebration of the release of their screen idol's new release.

The film was released in six languages. Rajini plays three roles in the film.

'Kochadayaiiyan' also marked another landmark for Rajini, in that he has acted in Black and White, Eastman colour, digital, 3D and motion capture tech films, the only Indian lead actor to do so.

The actor is also already shooting for his next film titled 'Linga', directed by Mr Raviumar, in Karnataka with another Bollywood star Sonakshi Sinha and Anushka Sharma.
