Punjab cabinet minister Sarwan Singh Phillaur resigns as minister
Punjab Tourism and Jail minister Sarwan Singh Phillaur resigned from the cabinet today.
He is understood to have sent his resignation letter to Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal.
It is said that he put in his papers to save the SAD chief Parkash Singh Badal and his son Sukhbir Singh Badal from embarrassment, at the hands of the central government. His son DamanBir Singh's name had figured in the list of drug mafia involved in the Rs 6000 crore drug scam in the state for which the Enforcement Department had issued notice to DamanBir many a times before and fresh notices had been slapped on him.
The other reason is the defeat of SAD candidate Pawan Tinu from Jalandhar Lok Sabha seat to which Kartarpur assembly segment is a part of the Jalandhar Lok Sabha seat from where the SAD candidate had lost by a margin of nearly 12600 votes.
Taking moral responsibility of defeat of the SAD candidate, Phillaur preferred to put in his papers before he was grilled by the SAD committee constituted to probe the reasons and factors responsible for the defeat of the party candidate.
